QUESTION: HAS ANYONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS IRON LEAKING WATER WHILE USING THE STEAM FEATURE?
If the iron is not in use, be sure that the Fabric Select Dial and Steam Lever are both set to O/Off. Otherwise, the steam valve will remain open, allowing water to enter the steam chamber. The water will not be turned into steam without the iron being turned on, and the sole plate will flood, causing leakage. If the temperature setting is set for a low temperature, such as Synthetic, and the Steam Lever is set for high steam, the iron may leak due to the temperature not being high enough to generate steam for the selected steam setting.
I have not had a problem with this iron. My frustration with other irons in the past has always been leaking water. I always turn off the steam setting and the iron as recommended by the manufacturer.
I did have this problem the first time I used the iron. So far, however, it seems OK now. I have only used it a few times at this point.
No mine works fine. I actually love this iron. I wonder if you called them if they would replace it for you? It sounds like something isn't right
No problem here. The feedback by others is pretty complete. I would contact Sunbeam and have them denote it as an out of box failure. Good luck!
Oh sorry Tammy I misunderstood I thought yours was leaking. No I have had no issues at all with this iron its great
Occasionally I have trouble, but usually only when I don't let it heat up to temperature. All in all, I like this iron. It replaced an older version of the same iron.

QUESTION: I WAS TOLD THE TEMPERATURE GOES UP TO 400F. IS THIS CORRECT?
400 degrees is a very aggressive number for any household appliance. Remember, the kindling point of paper is 451 degrees. You certainly don't want to "burn" cloth. But, I would say that the iron is very, very hot...certainly hot enough to iron ANY fabric. This unit is excellent, and compares VERY favorably with ANY iron!
The highest setting on this iron is the Linen setting, with and operating temperature of 392 degrees Fahrenheit.
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: I DON'T SEE A CLEARLY MARKED TEMPERATURE ADJUSTER AND/OR AN ON/OFF SWITCH. WHERE IS IT LOCATED AND IS IT EASY TO READ AND USE?
A rotating dial right below the water fill hole goes from "off" to "linen"; very easy to read. However, in the "off" position, a red light on the handle remains lit for several minutes, though no heat is transmitted to the soleplate. To avoid the light, my habit is to unplug the unit when I'm through using it. This iron gets a grade of excellent in my book.
Temp adjuster is the wheel on top. It turns on when you plug it in and times out and shuts off. There is a red light that flashes when it turns off. There is a button under the handle on the window where you can see the water, towards the top that you push to turn it back on. This is by far the best iron I've had. The other thing I like is at the point of the iron like when you iron between buttons that are buttoned up, the fabric can go between the bottom of the iron and the top of the hot bottom. Hard to explain but you'll love it.
There's a round dial that adjusts temperature by fabric type. These same dial is used to turn it off and on.
Its at the top, right below where you fill it. It turns to the right.

QUESTION: WHERE DO I PUT THE WATER IN???
There is a plastic cover that slides up and down on the nose of the iron. I find it easiest to pour water into the reservoir while the iron is in a flat position, and then tilt it up to see where the level is.
on the arch in the front where the 3 ridges are just below the green on the handle
Claire, you have to slide down the cover located at the front of the iron.
At the top of the iron there is a silver pieace that can slide down in there you place the water

QUESTION: WHY DOES MY IRON DRIP CONSTANTLY? I BOUGHT THIS TO REPLACE ANOTHER IRON THAT DRIPPED AND THE PROBLEM IS ALMOST WORSE WITH THIS NEW IRON.
There are a few reasons the iron might leak. Be sure to check the following: 1. The iron has to be filled on Dry Fill or it will leak. 2. The iron must be hot and set to a steam appropriate setting before turning to steam and starting to iron or it will leak. 3. The iron must not be Stored with water in it on steam setting. 4. The iron should not be overfilled. 5. You must wait long enough for the iron to heat up before turning to steam. 6. Trying to iron with steam on too low of a setting may cause drippage. 7. Using the shot of steam feature too many times in a row can cool down the soleplate and cause drippage. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at www.sunbeam.com/contactus.
I really don't know. Mine does not drip. I always use the steam feature on the far left side, maybe this might help. I do empty it when I am not using it.
I would contact the company about your being defective. Mine doesn't drip at all.
I wish i could answer that for you but ny iron does not drip. Maybe u got one with problems.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: HOW EASY IS IT TO SEE THE WATER LEVEL
Not as easy as I would like, I have to pick it up and hold it to the light to see it. Since it died after 3 1/2 months Rec April 26, dead to day 11/9/14 I am pretty unhappy!
I don't have any problem seeing it, I love this iron, I get the perfect crease every time, am a huge fan, have had mine close to a year, no problem so far
It's very visible through the turquoise plate and includes a "maximum" water level marker. I love this iron!
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: DOES THIS IRON ACTUALLY GET HOT AT THE COTTON/LINEN SETTING? THE IRON I HAVE DOESN'T GET HOT. I CAN IRON ALMOST ALL FABRICS ON COTTON.
This iron works well. To me it irons most materials on cotton but sometimes I need to lower the heat because it tends to stick on some materials if it is too hot because it heats very hot. I don't know if that helps but I hope I helped.
I can only say that I use it for all fabrics and it does a great job.
My answer is yes it one of the best irons I have ever owed I have it set on cotton all the time with full steam it glides over all my cloths I just love it.
since i have my ironing done by my house help I did not realize there was a problem with this iron. like you said everything can get ironed on cotton/linen except maybe silk, which i do not have anyway. silk goes to the cleaners. so after seeing this question i thought maybe that is why my shirts do not look freshly pressed. i just want to know now how i can get it replaced. the iron is still under warranty. it seems to steam well but still not hot enough dry or wet. thank you
#Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: THE HANDLE ON MINE GETS EXTREMELY HOT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I HAVE TO USE A POTHOLDER TO FINISH IRONING????
I haven't had any problem like that, I'd contact amazon , they're wonderful when it comes to things like that, obviously there's something wrong with the iron you recieved
No, the handle doesn't get hot. It works great.
WOW really?! I haven't experienced anything like that at all.
Mine doesn't . Try to return it if you can. I love mine. Sorry you are having problems.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Review

QUESTION: IS IT BIGGER THAN OTHER IRONS? BECAUSE I DON'T WANT SOMETHING TOO BULKY...
My old iron is 8x4. This iron's surface is 9x5, but the handle definitely adds weight/size with the water reservoir and cable compartment.
I do think it's too big. And the base is 3-4inches bigger than the heat plate. Heavy compares to my other iron.
I've had bigger irons and there are certainly smaller irons ! What make this an iron I really like is the design and the performance ( no leaking of water ! ) Also, it is a great value for the price. Good luck !
It's not a travel iron and slightly larger than some, but lightweight. It's well worth the price for the quality. Hope this helps.
The GCSBSP-201-000 is not a bulky iron, but it is a nice size and design. The dimensions are approximately: H-6.5 x W-13.4 x D-5.6
It is larger and heavier than my previous iron, a Proctor-Silex. I can't say bigger than other irons since I don't know which irons you are referring to.
I think so and that may be due to the base since Cord retracts. But it's manageable.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: I'VE NEVER HAD AN IRON WITH A RETRACTABLE CORD. DOES THE BASE MAKE IT AWKWARD TO IRON?
NOT AT ALL
No it does not, it's very handy to when your done you push the button and the cord rolls into the iron.
I only use it to iron craft projects and I have not had any problems with it. I really like the iron.
The lady that does the ironing for me says it is no problem at all. She likes it.
Not at all. The more I use the iron the better I like it.
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: HOW MANY STEAM HOLES DOES IT HAVE?
15
15
15
I wouldn't really concern myself with the number of steam holes. Overall, this is a very poor performing iron which I do not recommend. I'm using my old Shark EuroPro which has a much higher steam output, better heat control, is less likely to tip over, and does a much better job in general. It easily removes wrinkles, while the Sunbeam doesn't. What it claims is disappointingly little more than advertising hype. The Sunbeam is a big and bulky iron, which I gave away. Should've returned it. Both irons are made in China, and are of American design. In summary, don't buy this Sunbeam for any reason! You'll regret it.
15... see one of the photos on the Amazon link for this excellent iron.
I can say it has enough to make it the best of the best steam Irons. Just look at the base plate picture and count them right on the web.
I also want you to know my housekeepers will only use THIS iron even though there are several to choose from in our household.
#Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: I QUILT & LIKE THAT THIS IRON HAS LONGER SHUT-OFF TIME (15 MINUTES) BUT DOES IT REHEAT AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU PICK IT UP OR DO YOU HAVE TO RESET IT?
After the auto-off function has activated, you can reset the iron by moving it back and forth and then allowing it to reheat for two minutes.
You reset by moving it back and forth as if ironing. It is then ready in 2 minutes. Great iron for quilting.
Yes it reheat automatically when you move it
#Sunbeam_Steam_Review

QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE TO EMPTY THE WATER RESERVOIR AFTER USING IT. OUR CURRENT SUNBEAM SOMETIMES SPRAYS RUSTING WATER ON CLOTHING.
We do recommend that you empty the water reservoir to improve the longevity of your iron.
I do because I do not use it on a regular basis. Try googling your question.
Hi there...I have been nothing but impressed with this iron. No I don't believe you need to do this...but perhaps you live in a high humidity area? I've always purchased $20 irons and been disappointed for various reasons. But this....I love love love this iron. No rust, no fuss, and it's high quality. I hope this helps you.
I have never emptied it. It has spit water from the first day tho. I do use distilled water and not tap water also.
That is the recommendation but I must admit I don't always do it. I love the iron.
Probably not. Great iron
Yes is the simple answer. Especially if you have well water as we do. All water contains trace minerals. Suggest thorough cleaning and switch to distilled water.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: WHY DOES IT NOT STEAM EXCEPT ON COTTON SETTING?
Mine steams on all settings. I really like the three steam settings
Mine steams on the other setting as well. The lowest setting I have used is silk, but it still steams. You can even choose from 3 levels of steam.
My iron steams on all settings. If yours does not, perhaps it needs to be returned for another one?
It didn't give a good steam on nylon and silk
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: USED 1ST TIME LAST NIGHT. DRIPPED ON SHIRT WHILE USING. COTTON/STEAM SETTING. DISTILLED WATER. WOULD TAP WATER ELIMINATE PROBLEM?
Never had that problem, I happen to use tap water.
Tap water should actually be used instead of distilled water, its just better for the iron overall. One way to prevent dripping is to make sure you dont fill above the max line. If problems continue, please contact Sunbeam direct for more troubleshooting and assistance.
FWIW...we use distilled water and it works fine. Using Tap water will eventually accumulate mineral deposits in the iron that may damage the unit and likely void the warranty.
I ONLY USE TAP WATER AND IT DOES NOT SPIT OR DRIP
I am not sure how to answer this question, but I find this iron to be very useful. And in my opinion, the best iron to date. I used this iron with tap water and I find no problem with it so far.
no. its a piece of crap. run while you can.
#Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD RETAIL PACKAGING @ $29.99 VS. FFP PACKAGING @ $49.84.
I do not know but I am sorry I bought that iron, it leaks.
we selected standard as I believe FFP refers to earth friendly packaging material that breaks down in the land fill faster.
I did more research & discovered that FFP packaging is easier to open & materials are recyclable. At least I believe they're recyclable
#Sunbeam_Steam_Review

QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE TO USE DISTILLED WATER WITH THIS IRON?
I use distilled water due to the extremely hard water in my area.
No you can use regular tap water. Might not be bad if you have hard water. Couldn't hurt to prevent build up down the road. But nothing said you have too.
Non-distilled water virtually always will leave sediment. I like my appliances to have a long lifetime. Hence I use distilled water.
The instructions that came with my iron say not to use distilled water, except in a special cleaning circumstance. BTW, water is not supposed to be left inside the well when iron is not in use.
I have not used distilled water in mine. Just my filtered tap water.
No the instructions said you don't have to
We just use regular water and it works great. I'm embarrassed to say that I never read the directions. We just opened it up and started using it and regular water works just fine. I hope this helps.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: IS THE WATER RESERVOIR REMOVABLE?
I just looked and it doesn't remove.
No it does not it just has a retractable cord
The water reservoir is not removable. It can be filled by sliding the water fill hole cover open and pouring water directly into the reservoir.
Not that I have seen, love the iron, heavy weight and it does a wonderful job.
the water reservoir is not removable
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE WEIGHT
I weighed it using our highly accurate digital bathroom scale. Total weight is 2.80 lbs, or 2 lbs + 12.8 oz. This is the one and only iron that I have ever been able to use without causing pain to my extremely arthritic hands.
3.6 lbs feels light and easy use
It's pretty heavy nice weight I don't know exactly but it's a great iron
Not sure exactly but I was suprised how light it was for the size.
3 lbs.
It says on the Amazon site 3.6 pounds
Shipping weight is 3.5 lbs, so I would guess around 2.5 to 3 lbs. I find it perfect, not to heavy or to light.
Maybe 3lbs. it is really very light and easy to use, and does a wonderful job.
Not to heavy. I don't know the exact weight.
Not nearly as heavy as a Rowenta. The combination of the weight of the iron plus the steam output means it will iron heavy weight fabrics with ease.
#Master_1400_Watt

QUESTION: DOES THIS IRON GET NICE AND HOT? I PLAN ON USING IT DRY, AND I DON'T WANT TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME IRONING.
Yes it heats up fast, and if you want to spend less time ironing you buying the correct iron !
The hottest setting is LINEN which seems pretty hot to me.
Yes, it does favgood job and gets very hot.
Yes it gets very hot. It works well for me.
#Sunbeam_Steam_Review

QUESTION: DOES THIS IRON WORK WELL FOR QUILTING?
In my opinion, this iron works well for everything. It has excellent variable heat control, large water tank, a nice point for getting into corners and very comfortable to use. I would be surprised if you did not like this iron.
I'm a quilter and it works like a dream for me! After owning an expensive "R" iron, this one works 10 times better and the price is way better too - I have told most of my friends and family about this iron. I love it!!!
Yes. I purchased this iron specifically for quilting projects and I am extremely pleased with the performance. It does go through a lot of water, though, when steaming! Many quilters do not use the "steam" feature, but I do. This iron was recommended to me from a fellow quilter. Hope this answers any of your concerns!
I'm afraid I don't know. I haven't used it dry.

QUESTION: IS IT A NON-STICK PLATE, LOOKING FOR ONE THAT ISN'T. THANKS.
no it's a chrome plate
the sole plate is NOT TEFLON, if that's what you mean..It's a shinny looking chrome, that don't stick.
It is NOT non-stick, slides very smoothly with it's shiny metal bottom.
Whatever the plate is made of, it's operation is smooth and hasn't presented a problem.
#Sunbeam_Steam

QUESTION: IS THIS NON-STICK?
This iron has a stainless steel sole plate.
The sole plate of the iron is stainless steel, not non-stick-like material such as Teflon. However, the most expensive irons and professional irons are all stainless steel...it is the preferred sole plate material. This one of the only irons in this price range that I could find with the preferred stainless steel plate.
This iron does not have a "non-Stick" sole plate. However, the smooth stainless steel soleplate performs as a non-stick surface.
I would say yes based on experience. It hasn't stuck to anything I have used it on.
Yes. It's a great iro. Easy to use. A little heavy.
It certainly appears to be as far as we can tell from the several weeks of usage.

Just a couple of weeks. However, I continue to be very pleased with this item. It is the best iron I have ever owned.
I have had it over 3 months and I hate it. I use it now with a separate spray bottle instead of the steam function.
Very and very happy with it. I got it a bit more than a month ago. Great purchase!
About a month now and very pleased
2 months and I'm very pleased with this iron. I have a fabric shower curtain and I love that I can steam the wrinkles right out of it using it vertically.
Have the iron a few months and haven't used it much. So far so good.

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS THE CORD WHEN IT IS FULLY EXTENDED? THANKS.
When fully extended, the cord is approximately 7.5 feet long.

According to my measurement it's about 6 - 1/2 feet long. The one good thing is that it is retractable -- since I do my ironing in the basement it helps to keep the cord off of the floor.

Yes, it does. It is the round dial at the top which is also the fabric setting.
