QUESTION: HOW HOT CAN IT GET...MY MOTHER IS ALWAYS COLD?
Really, really hot! We used this all winter and, in spite of keeping the thermostat at 68 degrees during the night, we were both plenty warm with the blanket controls on 2 from head to toe. I would turn it on Preheat about 15 minutes before bed and then turned it down to 2 for the rest of the night. I believe your mom would be plenty warm using this heated mattress pad.
There are settings from slightly warm to very warm. This was the best investment I've ever made as it warms from the bottom up, and I bought one for each bed in the house. The older one I had did not have automatic shut-off and I like this.
It has ten settings for all three zones. When it is very cold we may have it on 5 at the feet, 4 for the torso, and 3 at our heads. You will sweat above 5. Oh, I see an earlier responder stated they kept the thermostat at 68 degrees. With this, we set the thermostat (during winter) at 54 degrees and we are toasty. Bought one for my sister-in-law and she stated it is the best present she has ever gotten.
It gets pretty snuggly and stays warm, it has a control where you can decide how hot you want to be there was no need for me to have it all the way up, I am sure that that she will love it.
When I get cold I turn my control up to high and within ten minutes I must turn it down to 3 or 4. I think your mother will enjoy this heated mattress pad as much as I do. I like the heat coming from underneath me like a giant heating pad that can be controlled in three sections.
On the lowest setting it got too hot for me sometimes. This was despite a super-cold winter and a poor heating system in my house. It also has a pre-heat feature, which heats up quickly when you start it. I think it would be warm enough for almost anyone under most normal circumstances.
VERY! I never use this on more than setting 1 or 2. LOVE this mattress pad. Worth every penny!!
I keep mine on setting No 1 at all times. Anything higher than that is too warm for me to sleep on. I actually have the Queen-size which has dual controls so I can heat either sides of the bed or I can choose to heat only one side of the bed. This mattress cover is like a "Dream-come-true" if you are in a cold weather State (Northern States) and can't tolerate getting into a cold bed. Now, for my Mom...I ordered the Twin size, it only has one control and I believe that it has 10 settings. I placed hers on setting #7 and wow...her bed was warmed for her to climb in, then she turned it off...lol... Over-all...I have no buyer regrets with either purchase. Just try it...if Mom don't like it...Amazon is very good concerning customer dissatisfaction on purchases. Just be sure to keep all boxes, m aterial, etc., for re-packaging. Hope this helps!!!!
At the lowest setting it is too hot to sleep on. I can only use it to preheat the bed and then turn it off.

QUESTION: CAN IT BE USED ON A PLATFORM BED?
I wouldn't know it didn't work for me, I felt no heat at all. But to answer your question yes it will work.
I don't see why it wouldn't as it's a mattress pad.
As long as you have a mattress I don't see why not. Just tuck the extra underneath the mattress.
The cord should run from the foot of the mattress, between the mattress and box springs, up to the head of the bed where you can plug it in to the wall outlet.
it should be able to be used on any kind of bed as long as it has a standard mattress which the heated pad is fitted to.
Sure, it goes between the top sheet and mattress

QUESTION: JUST INSTALLED THIS ON OUR BED AND EVEN ON SETTING 1 IT'S REALLY HOT! DOES THAT GET BETTER WITH SOME USE OR IS THIS DEFECTIVE?
I have not had this experience with my heated mattress pad.
Unplug the unit from the wall and from the mattress pad, check that the cable is not tangled and laid out flat under the bed. Also, plug the unit directly into the wall outlet, not on a outlet strip.Reconnect the cable to the outlet on the pad, make sure it is going in correctly, there are arrows to show you which way to connect. Plug other end into wall outlet, and turn on. initially set the unit to 0 or - on each setting, then increase to 1 or 2 and wait 30 minutes. It should be mildly warm, not hot. If it is one again gets real hot, unplug and DO NOT USE. Pack it up and send it back, defects do happen. Hope this helps, good luck!
Sounds defective. At setting 1, ours is quite comfortable. Even at setting 5, the heat is not unbearable.
I does run hot but is the most superlative I've ever purchased. I simply run on 1 - 3 with feet at 1 unit less. I like the fact that this warms the bed almost instantly. I too use a pad over this one to make cleaning easier, so perhaps that helps. Also, Sunbeam customer service is very helpful and responsive.
I think that they do run a little hot. I preheat mine then turn it down to 1 and is comfortable. I do not leave it on all night though. I turn it on and off during the night. ( which I don't sleep all night) Sometimes I only have it on my feet.
If you leave it on for a few hours it does get hot. I turn mine on about 45 min before bedtime, then turn it off for the rest of the night. I think the heat is either on or off and it modulates by turning itself on and off, so if yours is way too hot, it may be defective.
I think it's working correctly. Yes, 1 (the lowest setting) is hotter than it should be. A mattress cover installed over the heating pad will help some.
That is a good observation. Just used yesterday and had to shut off because it got too hot.
It seemed hot to me at first also so I put the first zone on no heat, the middle on 1 and the feet on 2. I have left the top zone on no heat ever and increased the other 2 as the nights get colder.
My husband thinks setting 1 is too hot but I like it on 3.

QUESTION: DURING THE NIGHT I CAN HEAR A VERY SLIGHT HUM AT REGULAR INTERVALS; HAS ANYONE HEARD THIS?
No I have not heard any noise. Very quite.
No kidding have not noticed any sounds at all...
yes I have at one point. It seemed to be coming from the control and somehow amplification or vibration from it. I moved the controller just, repositioned really, and it went away. Haven't heard it since.
No i haven't noticed anything like that
Yes- the hum is the unit sending receiving the wireless signal to the pad to turn on and off in cycles. Sounds normal to me
have not heard that
No, our mattress is perfectly silent.

QUESTION: CAN YOU FEEL THE WIRES?
An update to my earlier response. I checked this out again last night and, as another reviewer stated, you can feel the wires with your hand but not with your body when you are sleeping on it - and I am a "princess and the pea" person - can't sleep on textured sheets or anything not really smooth.
No, I don't feel the wires when I'm laying in bed.
I do not feel the wires. The only thing I can detect is the plug in at the foot of the mattress pad. However, the plugs are not very obvious and have not bothered me. I cannot feel the wires at all. It works really well and I would recommend it.
Yes, a little bit, but it hasn't bothered me. I love it, hubby got this for me for Valentines Day. I miss it when we travel!
When we first started using the mattress pad, the wires were pretty much undetectable. One year later, they are more noticeable, but still not as much as with other heated mattress pads we've had. In our case, however, there has probably been more than the usual wear and tear contributing to this. We live in northern New England and heat with a wood stove, so the bedroom gets very cool at night. The mattress pad is on for eight months of the year. In addition, our senior cat has expressed his general displeasure with life on several occasions by peeing on our bed, resulting in more than the usual number of washings. We still love it!
I do not feel anything. The only thing you might feel would be the plugs near the lower corners but you would really need to reach for them. Works great
I actually put a mattress pad over this mattress pad then my sheets on a King sized bed. I find that it keeps the heat in better with something over it. I don't ever feel wires.
I cannot feel the wires at all, of course I am not a princess and the pea. The mattress pad warms up very quickly and is a nice element on a cold night. I love it.
If you massage the pad with your hands you can feel them. Lying on it, cannot feel them. Very happy with it. Will have one forever.

QUESTION: HOW MANY WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL FOR QUEEN OR KING SIZE?
Just one for my queen. A little inconvenient, but I still love it.
2 for king. Love it.
The King only has one controller. This is VERY inconvenient!
One wireless remote that handles both sides.
I am very confused now. The pics show one remote that controls the zones for both sides. I would much prefer two separate remotes as some of you stated that it has....Are we all talking about the same therapeutic mattress pad with wireless remote and if so, is there any way to request 2 remotes instead of 1??
There are two remotes for Queen and King.
#Sunbeam_Therapeutic

QUESTION: WILL THIS WORK ON AN ADJUSTABLE BED? HOW LONG IS THE CORD TO THE OUTLET?
Don't know the exact length but mine is on a king bed and I have at least an extra six feet of cord. So I say yes.
MariasMom, the mattress pad cords exit the mattress from the two corners of the "foot side" of your mattress. They are 14.5 feet to the unit that receives the remote control signal. The power cord, (110 v) exits this "receiver" and is 5 feet long and this plugs into the wall. I have mine in a "Captains" waterbed box frame, the water bed was removed and then replaced by a Queen size mattress. Of course, everybody has a different installation. If you go under your bed you won't trip over the wires. I put the wires in between the mattress and the wooden box, or the wires would be all over the place. It's something to think about. It's still not cold, in S. Florida, but is rainy most days, so I set it on setting 1 and it keeps the bed and pillow cover s warm and dry. Then turn it off at night. Remember what I said in my review. This is a "Therapeutic" mattress cover, if that means anything. And it can get very hot. My thinking is if it's too hot on setting 1, I can put a blanket or comforter over it to "insulate" my body from the hot mattress cover. I'm waiting for it to get cold to find out if that will work. Other brands have had SERIOUS burn problems with the wires and plugs. This is why I chose "SunBeam." They have been making electric blankets for decades.Good Luck :) OH, yes, I don't see why it wouldn't work on an adjustable bed.. It is as flexible as any other cover. I bought the elastic straps to firmly hold the sheet on top of the mattress pad. Some straps are long enough to " criss-cross" from corner to corner. See what the sellers are selling and decide if these elastic "bungie" cords with sheet cla mps on the ends would work for you.
Yes it works great with an adjustable bed the cord from the control box to outlet is about 6' foot long.

QUESTION: IS IT EQUIPPED WITH SOME FUNCTION TO PREVENT ELECTROMAGNATIC WAVES?
You can minimize electromagnetic waves by turning off all of the fuses or circuit breakers in your house and disconnecting from the grid. No generators or photovoltaic power either, that's cheating. Of course, then your electric mattress pad won't work. If you just want the wires further from your body and have obscene amounts of money, there are medical devices that heat a pad with warmed water.
Everyone offers this feature today. This is the only weapon of the enemy. Open your mind. Get one.
best to check with the manufacturer direct

QUESTION: WHAT BATTERIES DOES THE WIRELESS CONTROLLER REQUIRE? HOW LONG DOES A SINGLE SET OF BATTERIES LAST?
its very weird that this controller needs 3 AAA batteries but as far as I always use rechargeable batteries I personally don't care about how long they last but Im using it for 2 months now and still I haven't charge 'em yet.
The controller takes three triple A (AAA) batteries. I got my product in late November '13,and I'm still on my first set of batteries. I recommend using using Duracell or Energizer alkaline or lithium batteries. I'm using Duracell alkaline currently. The control goes into a sleep mode a few seconds after you have made your setting, and will light back up when you press any of the buttons to adjust. It is a nice energy saving feature, and will help your batteries to last. Hope this helped. lyle
3 Triple A, my first set hasn't died yet, month or so old
I was going to guess AA, but thought I should go check! 3 AAA! I was concerned about the thought of changing batteries every night, but it's been 3 months or so, pretty amazing. Now,maybe depending on heat settings and how many sections, but I use 2 -3 sections a night, almost every night, and 6-8 hours! I love this thing!
It takes AAA batteries. Mine have been in for 4 months now and so far so good. Don't know how long they will last as yet.
It uses 4 (I believe) triple A batteries, as to how long they last I really couldn't tell you we have only had it since Christmas. My wife has used it everyday since Christmas day and the batteries are still holding up. Hope this helps.
I bought this last Christmas and used it all winter and even some during the summer and haven't replaced the batteries yet. And it was used nightly in the winter (at last 4 months). This was with the preheat and the 10 hour shutoff and sometimes turning it back on for another 2 to 4 hours.
Mine is not wireless so unfortunately I cannot answer your question

QUESTION: CAN THIS BE USED ON A QUEEN SIZE AIR MATTRESS?
Don't know for sure, but the pad is like a fitted mattress pad - stretchy on the sides. I would think so.
don't see why not nothing is sharp. has plugs that would be under the mattress. when we travel and use our airbed we just put a thick quilt over the mattress then the fitted bottom sheet.
If you have a queen size mattress, yes...it is necessary for you to order Queen Size and this mattress cover fits true to size with plenty of space for deep pocket mattresses, so please...be sure you order the correct size for your mattress size only.

QUESTION: CAN YOU SET IT TO HEAT FOR ONLY A COUPLE HOURS AND THEN TURN OFF? WHAT IS THE LONGEST SETTING YOU CAN HAVE IT RUN FOR?
Mine doesn't have a timer, I have the twin size. The longest I've used it continually is 6 hours. I use it in a massage therapy office and I shut it on and off throughout the day depending upon my clients individual preferences.
It will shut off it's self in ten hours. Although you can turn it off anytime you wish. I turn it on high about a half hour before I go to bed so the bed is toasty warm then turn it off when I'm ready to go to sleep. I can't leave it on all night because I get to hot. You can however turn it down to a lower setting and leave it on. The choice is yours. I really am glad I got it. It's much better then any I've bought in the past. And the three level heating is a great added bonus.
On the controller there is a auto-off/stay-on button. The auto-off shuts off automatically after 10 hours. The stay-on stays on indefinitely. Hope this helps
This is tricky to answer. IF memory serves me correctly.... The PRE HEAT feature will run for a short amount of time-- close to an hour, possibly an hour and a half and then it reverts back to what ever setting levels you have set on the controller. You cannot adjust the amount of time anything stays on with this cover. You get a pre heat feature that runs for 1-2 hours and reverts back to your settings.. OR, if you don't pre heat-you just turn it on, it will run for 10-12 hours and automatically shut off... ONLY IF you have the AUTO OFF feature "turned on". otherwise it will stay on 24 hours.
No, you can't set it for a couple of hours, it has an option to shut off after 10 hrs. It does preheat any area you want for 30 min on high, then drops it to the setting you had it on in the first place. We've really liked it and it is almost too warm, I rarely have even the feet on all night.
#Heated_Mattress_Pad

QUESTION: CAN IT BE USED WITH A MATTRESS PROTECTOR
I put ours directly over the top of a thick mattress pad. Does not seem to be an issue. Can't respond if the mattress protector is plastic, though. Not sure what would happen.
Yes. I have my sunbeam underneath the mattress protector
I use it with a mattress protector
Yes, we have a mattress protector under ours; however, it should be fine to put the protector on top of the heated mattress pad because the heat it gives off is substantial. It would not work to completely encase the pad because of the power cord.

QUESTION: WHEN YOU GUYS BOUGHT IT HOW WAS THE PACKAGING? MINE WAS IN AN AMAZON BOX BUT ONCE I OPEN IT THE PAD WAS JUS IN AN OPEN BAG...LOOKED USED?
It is in a,box and clear bag. Looks fine it's a Xmas gift.
mine came in a plastic bag that had a zipper and advertising plus instructions inside.
Were talking about the "Therapeutic Mattress Pad." With wireless remote control. Inside the Amazon box was a another card board box with a label that said sunbeam on it. Inside was a zippered thick clear plastic bag with two card board instruction sheets explaining how to use the remote and mattress cover. One said "Queen" because that is my beds size. I thought it was going to cook me on setting one, but now that the temp. is getting a bit cooler, abt. 70*, for me that's cool, setting one works fine. Any part of your body that compresses the mattress cover is going to get hotter, due to conductivity. (thermal conductivity) So if your hips are feeling the burn, just turn off or lower the center of the three electric pads. I you want to warm both sides of the bed, there is a little switch for one or both sides on the back of the remote. If your looks dirty or used, it may have been repaired, or refurbished. Return it. I expect mine to last for years. At the $170.00 price, many years. I forgot the exact price, so it's a guess.
Ours came packaged in a cardboard box; pad itself was in a zippered plastic bag all sealed up in brand new condition as if in a store. Yours sounds like it was used.
My blanket came appropriately packaged (in a zipped plastic case with cardboard insert that had identifying information about the product on it.)
I put a lot of effort into informing, to be, purchasers on Amazon. I should get a thank you, or a merry christmas, at least !

QUESTION: HOW LONG IS THE WARRANTY AND WHAT DOES IT COVER?
We don't remember. Try going online, maybe call Sunbeam. We have had it for almost a year. No problems. Love it. We found it does not need any more than the low settings. Would always have one in the future. Spoiled now... Good luck!
There is a 3 year limited warranty on this. Basically it covers defects in workmanship and material. It does not cover misuse or improper voltage etc. It is a pretty standard warranty. I've had the product for almost a year and use it all the time. I'm very satisfied with it.

QUESTION: BOUGHT LAST WINTER AND LOVED IT. WASHED AND PACKED IT AWAY FOR SUMMER. CAN'T GET IT TO HEAT UP NOW. ANY IDEAS WHY?
That is my experience as well . Check batteries and all connections. If no results call customer service.
I had an older one bfore and after washing it took awhile to "dry" inside... made sure it's not damp... give their customer service a call... could be a bad connection... I've had that with a different model before and it needed to be replaced... good luck!
When this question was presented, in our part of Oklahoma we are still going through the humid and hot weather; so at this time I have not pulled out my mattress cover. I would suggest that make sure you have the heating element plugged in correctly following the paper instructions received with the product. Make sure then the cords are all connected to a wall plug. Check for frayed chord that could be shorting and dangerous. Perhaps check for an accumulation of mold or other organic matter blocking the plug. Feel gently following the mattress cover wires for any twisted, bent or broken wires that could be shorted out. Just in general give it a thorough physical.
I don't know. I leave mine on year round and cover it with another mattress pad; I just unhook the plugs so it's not sucking power all summer. Could it be the wires were pinched somehow during storage? Have you tried starting from scratch and doing the whole linking-up process as if it is brand new? Perhaps during the washing and/or storage, it has lost connection with the base.
Sounds like a warranty issue. First check to make sure it is fully connected where the cords attach to the pad. Also check your batteries in the remote. Good luck
#Heated_Mattress_Pad

QUESTION: COULD IT BE USED WITH A TIMER/WEMO PLUG TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON AT A SET TIME?
I dont think it could because the heater turns on with a remote not attached to the power cord. It has no continuous on feature. Auto shuts off after 10 hrs.
I would have to say no. Unplugging and re-plugging puts it to an off position by default so a timer would do the same.
No
No the remote is wireless,.
Not sure, you will need to call the manufacturer
No need. It has a timer and preheat
No it can not be used with a timer.
#Sunbeam_Therapeutic_Review

QUESTION: CAN THIS PAD BE USED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE TEMPRAPEDIC BED?
Good question but I'm not sure . I know it's flexible . Worse can happen is if you buy it and it doesn't work on your bed then it's easy to return . The product it's self works great and you wouldn't be disappointed . The pad it's self fits on your mattress like a fitted sheet would but better .
I cannot answer you with direct certainty about the adjustable bed... I don't have one. BUT, I would caution you based on what I have seen. I do have a select comfort bed w/ dual air bags in it. With each person's different settings we find that the heating pad has a tendency to "scoot" under the sheet toward the "emptier" air bag and "bunch up a little"... Therefore, I would assume that depending on how much movement happens or how often, it would "scoot" on your adjustable bed as well. How bad it scoots and bunches up is also dependent on how often your sheets get changed and one has easy access to it to re-adjust it. Our 2 week rotation of sheets is just about right for our needs... also note... if you are a cold foot person and have to have toasty toes, you will want to install it on your mattress such that all the heating elements are down near the foot of the bed, as the heating elements inside the pad don't go "clear the the end", and I being 6' tall, find that my frozen toes hang over the pad and stay frozen... until i pull it down and fix it... but once it is in place and on.. one could sleep outside w/ this thing and keep toasty.... it will roast you out of bed if you want it that hot.....!!!!!
I have a number bed and the pad works just fine.

QUESTION: IS THIS PAD MADE FOR A CAL KING BED??
Yes, check Sunbeams website and cal king model is there. $187 but out of stock as of this post http://www.sunbeam.com/heated-bedding/mattress-pads/MSU7RCK-C000-15A44.html#sz=23&start=12
I bought the king size and it fits a king bed perfect. It would never fit a cal king bed.
I don't know. You would have to see what sizes they offer. The model I purchased was a standard Eastern King but it seems logical they would make a Cal King as well. The King would not fit a Cal King bed.

QUESTION: CAN YOU SET THIS FOR JUST ONE OR TWO HOURS?
No, you have to turn it off. It shuts itself off after 10 hours.
Nope - You can use Pre-heat to get it going quickly, but there's no timer option. Automatic shut off happens after 7 hours. This said - I adore this thing - and would highly recommend getting it. I own 3 of them - they are highly addictive.
No you can't. There is no timer except the built in shut off in the description.
Yes, turn it on at a medium heat a couple of hours before going to bed, then turn it down to 1 or 2 when you jump in.
No, the device does not have a timer to set the warmth only for two hours; but you can turn it off at any time by punching the on/off button. I love taking naps/sleeping in a cool room, I set the mattress warmer, and when I wake I turn it off. The preset 10 hour timer is only a safety device to prevent over heating by leaving on the device for longer than 10 hours.
No you can't. It stays on for 10 hours then goes off.
Hi. So sorry in being late answering this. No, you cannot set it for hours. It will either be on, or set on auto for a 10 hour run. I pre-heat my husbands side, then at bedtime I turn off the shoulders and mid-area, leaving the feet section on a setting of 1. Then turn it off after we get up. I love the pad. Works great and so nice to have the ability to control the different areas of the body.
Unfortunately, no. And mine does not shut off after 10 hours, as it is advertised to do.

QUESTION: CAN YOU USE ALL THE ZONES AT THE SAME TIME
Yes, and at the same or different settings.
Absolutely, i don't use the top one too often because the pillow covers most of the area and I like a cool pillow but I have used all 3 zones
You absolutely can!
Yes, or one as we do. I use the foot warmer on one side. The rest of the bed stays cool.Sometimes all the bed is on,sometimes just the back warmer. It's great!!!!
Yes. At any setting!
YES
I do not think so, It needs to be used one at a time
yes
#Sunbeam_Therapeutic_Review

QUESTION: CAN YOU PUT A WATERPROOF MATTRESS PROTECTOR ON TOP OF THE HEATED PAD?
The more layers you have on top of the heated pad the less heat you feel. When I tried to use a regular mattress protector on top of my heated pad I was unable to feel any warmth come through, the only difference it made was the sheets on the massage table (because I use it in a clinical massage therapy setting) weren't cold to get into. I have yet to find a brand that produced enough heat that would go through a mattress protector and the sheet and still give warmth.
If it is the right size, I don't see why not. Thanks
We just have the fitted sheet over and that is toasty warm Not sure about waterproof protector
I read "ToriAnn's" comment to you and all I can say is that last night I set the mattress pad to setting 3 and woke up because it was baking me. A massage table has a nude person on it. I don't sleep in the nude and I have a comforter on top. This is a therapeutic heated mattress cover and if you look at Amazon comments, the generated heat is more than adequate for your use.
After reading the answers other people gave, I have to wonder why you would need a waterproof protector on top of the pad. The pad is washable, so in effect it's waterproof. You probably should put the mattress protector on top of the mattress, then put the heated pad on top of that. IF, you have a reason to protect the mattress pad from urine, then you have bigger problems.
#Sunbeam_Therapeutic_Heated_Mattress_Pad

QUESTION: DOES IT HUG THE ENTIRE MATTRESS OR A PAD THAT JUST COVERS THE TOP?
It "hugs" the mattress.
The pad is fitted to the mattress and hugs the sides and corners.
Not sure exactly what you mean. It is a fitted mattress pad that fits the mattress and doesn't move. The top heats and heats very well. However once you start washing it which you are supposed to be able to do the warming stops working as well. If you get one and cover it with a thin protective mattress mad and never wash it you'd be fine
