QUESTION: CAN IT REMAIN PLUGGED IN ALL THE TIME, AND YOU JUST TURN IT ON WHEN YOU WANT TO USE IT? MY LAST ONE I HAD TO PLUG AND UNPLUG IT FOR ON/OFF.
Yes, it can remain plugged in. There is a button on the handle that you press down when you want it to heat and it pops up when the water is done heating :)
The base, which is powered, and remains plugged in all the time, is separate from the pitcher, which simply lifts off the electrical contact area on the base for easy dispensing.
you can leave it plugged in if you want
Yes, you do have a power switch on the handle of the kettle. The power is supplied by the base which in turn supplies the power to the heating element in the kettle. Hope this helps
You can do that if you like. The on/off button is on the kettle handle itself.
I leave mine plugged in all the time! It has an auto shut off when at full boil. the on/off is on the handle when you want to heat up water you switch it on there, and it will switch itself off. I really love mine.
I Leave mine plugged in all the time. It turns itself off automatically.
Yes, it can remain plugged in all of the time.

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE EVERY PUT MILK IN THE MACHINE TO MAKE HOT CHOCOLATE. I WOULD PUT THE HOT CHOCOLATE POWDER IN THE MUG BUT WANT TO HEAT THE MILK THROUGH IT.
Haven't tried that, but I expect that would make a BIG mess with caked on milk protein and chocolate powder. I would probably just make it the old fashioned way :0)
I don't see why not ,if u start with lowest setting possibly graduating from there i can't see how u could cause extra cleaning result. Experiment .....but watch closely !!!! U know where OFF is!

QUESTION: I JUST TOOK MINE OUT OF THE BOX AND IT DOESN'T WORK. I KNOW IT IS SET UP RIGHT. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE AND, HOPEFULLY, A SOLUTION?
No idea... Mine worked and works just fine. Are you sure you turned and punched all the right knobs? Maybe a different AC outlet?
I should just have said .. Don't know But .. I put the temp selector to maximum .. It clicks when all the way clockwise I filled it halfway and pushed the handle switch down .. And it worked..
Hmm, did you fill it with cool water and adjust to highest temp?
Make sure the on button stays on my doesn't always stick on. Make sure the control knob is turned up and a light comes on when you activate the green on button. If no light then no electricity is present and it could be a defective unit But for Good measure make sure your electrical outlet is functioning... Just in case your GFI is faulted.. If it is you'll need to reset it.
Sorry, mine worked perfectly. Did you push the button on the handle? I know that sounds stupid, but I thought the on switch was at the bottom. Hope it works.
mine arrived broken, never has worked.

QUESTION: DOES IT HAVE A CORD?
yes
it has an electric base which has the cord. Still going strong, use it 2-3 times a day!
the cord attaches to the low-profile base, and the pot rests on the base on a single circular boss. neither the pot bottom nor the base have any hot or electrically-live surfaces, so it's both easy and safe to place and remove the pot.
Yes it does. The base portion has a cord that is about 18 in (note: I didn't bust out a ruler or measuring tape so this is just me eye-ing it) long.

QUESTION: BPA
The following is a response from T-Fal customer help desk: Thank you for your email via T-falUSA.com. This item is BPA free. Hope this was able to help you.
I just called T-FAL USA. The product is not labeled as BPA-free and their customer service person said, "All our products are fully tested for safety. We cannot confirm or deny the composition of this product." If they can't say, then you can't know.
Excellent question JG and I do not have an answer for you (I checked the manual and manufacturers website). I have emailed the company seeking this information. As soon as I receive an update, I will post to you again. Thank you for bringing up a great concern.
Plastic is STILL PLASTIC. IT STILL LEECHES OUT WHEN HEATED, even in simple sunlight. And BPA is just another very old patch-me- up word. By the way silicone, and softer plastics are more toxic. But no self respecting envoronmental allergy doc would rubber- stamp using plastic-- " anywhere you can avoud it." T-Fal is still unloading teflon too. Just a typical corporation into the bottom..line.

QUESTION: HOW FAST DOES IT BOIL.5L, 1L?
Matt! Can't believe I just checked it out, but it took 2 min. 30 seconds for .5 ltr. from cold. Love this pot. Just get it!
don't have a second hand, but the 1L started a rolling boil in about 2.5 minutes, and the unit shut off, before 3 minutes
I spoke with my wife and was told that it takes 60 to 90 seconds to come to a boil and wsitches off.
I haven't timed it, but it is very fast. The 1750 amp heater does a fantastic job of heating the water quickly.
#T-fal_BF6138

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE IT CAN BOIL?
I read a previous review and they said a T-fal Rep said at it's highest setting it can go to 212 degrees F. I think i read this in a July '13 review.
I re-read a customer review on 7-21-13. A rep indicated the settings for temps are 160/175 and 212 (for the 3 different settings). My daughter took this to college so I can not test the accuracy of the temp settings. Go to the questions and answers section for this as other questions are similar to yours.
I got about 205-215 by a digital thermometer. I keep the dial a smidge below max for the perfect coffee brewing temperature.
Even the instructions don't give exact temps. T-fal sets their dial for drinking - the minimal setting and boiling for the maximum setting. Sorry, you might want to go directly to the manufacturer for that information.
Yes it is
There is no temperature indicator. However the main body is made of plastic, therefore, the highest temperature won't be too much higher than 212 degree F. Don't think it is recommended to boil other liquid than water.
#Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: CAN YOU USE AN EX. CORD WITH THIS KETTLE
sure, the kettle itself removes from the base when pouring hot water
Yes, but it is made to heat at optima strength with its relatively short cord.
yes, a two prong extension cord will work. It plugs into any type of regular (standard USA) outlet. The cord is two prong (no ground).
I don't see why not - I haven't done that myself but that's certainly what extension cords are used for isn't it?
you should be able to it's a 2 prung plug
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES IT STAY HOT WHEN IT IS NOT PLUGGED IN?
This is not thermo pot, doesn't keep warm. Just make hot water and use it. But it makes hot so quick, no stress at all.
Like a hot water in a mug. No power no heating. But amazing speed boiling water. I was astounded of its speed
not long. It boils quickly, stops once it reaches the boiling point, and at that point, you may want to unplug it. I don't, but you might. Then, if you want hot water, there are only a couple of minutes that you can still get hot water from it, unless you set the control to simply keep water warm, which is a nice feature. I really like this little kettle.
If the pot is to the full line and heated to high, it stays hot enough to brew tea for 5 minutes or maybe more. It stays warm for a few more minutes. If it does cool some, it only takes a minute or two to reheat it. It is very fast. I really like the pot. I use it for tea frequently throughout the day and use it when I am cooking and need a little water. It is a lot nicer than a teapot on the stove.
Not long

QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE MINI KETTLE
It boils up to a liter of water and it is about 9 inches tall, 10 inched wide (from handle to spout) and about 6 Inches deep.
Refer to the product description on amazon, it's accurate. Product Dimensions: 9.5 x 7.7 x 7.7 inches ; 2.6 pounds Shipping Weight: 3 pounds (View shipping rates and policies) Shipping: This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S. ASIN: B0086UJQN8 Item model number: 7211001047

QUESTION: AFTER HEATING, DOES IT SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY? OR CAN I LEAVE IT ON A LOW TEMP UNTIL I MANUALLY SHUT IT OFF?
It shuts off automatically.
It shuts off. It's boiling so it will stay hot for some time. It's done for safety reasons as well. You don't want this on all the time. But having it for 7 months or so now we still really like it. Another great product we found very handy in the house is the NuWave Oven. Wow is it nice to use for almost everything. Check it out.
It will shut itself off, or you can lift it slightly from the base, which shuts it off, too.
It shuts off by itself after it boils. You don't have the option to keep it on low
The kettle will shut off automatically. The only notice you'll get is a click sound when the switch trips back to the off position.
If u don't want it to shut off automatically lift the top ! This will not allow the unit to close watch first stay with it it will boil dry and I don't know if I'm fact that's when it shuts off or destroys it self or can cause a fire. Observe

QUESTION: DOES THIS HAVE BPA?
Not sure, I've done a bit of research, and apparently they say that the heated parts do not have it (metallic base), but it says nothing about the other components (black plastic everywhere else). So in a nutshell, nothing conclusive.
It is BPA free.
According to other reviews I have see here, its not supposed to.
It seems inconclusive . . . there's no marking anywhere, or mention in the box. I would assume not. The heating element is metallic.
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE SPOUT INSERT USED FOR?
It is just a fine mesh screen and acts as a filter. If you have hard water it prevents scale from ending up in your cup.
If you have hard water you will get deposits after you use the kettle for awhile and this filters the water for you so you do not get any of the sediment in your tea cup.
I believe what you are referring to is a metal mesh piece between the main water compartment and spout. It could work as a sort of filter if, for example, you were to put tea bags directly into the water heater.
To add water and pour the hot water out. The spout has a little screen that filters the water you add before heating and also filters the hot water if there is sediment after heating. Mine has been very easy to keep clean. Really I just rinse it out. I have not had any kind of scaling. I am sure most of that is due to the water quality where I am fortunate enough to live.
The strainer keeps trash from entering the pot when I fill thru the spout.
I'm sorry, I do not know.
#T-fal_BF6138_Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: IS THE INSIDE METAL? I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF PLASTIC
Yes, it is metal
The bottom of the kettle is metal since it's a heating source. I love it!
The heating element is completely covered with a metal plate, the rest is plastic. I can send you a photo if you want but if you dislike plastic all together than this is not a product for you.
yes it is metal It's great !!! I love it!!!
It's plastic, the entire unit is made of plastic.

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRIPPING THE BREAKER (FUSE) IN THEIR HOUSE? IT ALMOST USES 15 AMP BY ITSELF! (ABOUT THE COMMON BREAKER LIMIT)
I've never had that problem and I use mine daily.
I found that I can't run the toaster and the kettle at the same time otherwise the breaker will trip. Maybe move it to another circuit in the kitchen?
It will trip the breaker at office if other items are pulling from the same circuit. I plugged it into a surge protector so that trips before the breaker. I also moved it to a lesser used circuit.
I have had no problem and I use it daily.
My daughter and I both have this tea kettle and love it. It has never tried the breaker. Perhaps there is something wrong with the tea kettle. I would call the manufacturer to be safe.
Never a problem
No problems here but it's on a plug of its own.
i don't know because i returned it. it was too big for what i wanted
two of my children have this quick water boiler and are very happy with it.

QUESTION: CAN YOU USE IT FOR CAMPING
ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 110V SOURCE.
You can if you have electric on sight.
Only if you have access to electricity!
In an RV, Car or camp site with electrical outlet, yes. Very light although a bit bulky, it doesn't collapse. Not suitable for backpacking. Unless you carry an electrical supply with you. ;)
Only if there an electrical plug handy.
Only if you have an electrical outlet that works
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: IS IT BPA FREE
When I purchased this it did not cross my mind to check. After some research it appears that it is NOT BPA free. However, I'm just going by what I found online. I also checked the kettle for a recycling number and found none.
Here's a link that elaborates: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bpa/AN01955 Labeling products that are BPA-free seems voluntary and are seen mostly in those that are 100% plastic free....weird. I got fed up with the 'Made in China' mainstream since they are free to make products that doesn't meet USA health standards. Right now , I use a tabletop induction burner that can hold temperatures within 5 degrees increments and an enameled cast iron teakettle such as Le Creuset. It's BPA free, reliable and worth the extra cost.
I did not investigate this, but my daughter did, and one of her requirements was that it had to be bpa-free. I don't know how she learned that it was, though.
HI! I have no idea! How would I know??

QUESTION: IS THE BOILING UNIT STAINLESS STEEL OR SOME SORT OF NON STICK?
Its stainless steel
It's aluminum without non-stick. Meant for liquids only.
Hi Michael, it looks like shiny stainless steel to me and it conducts heat like mad. It is not the brown or grey non-stick coated heating bottom, like the previous kettle I had. I hope it helps. Please note, only the bottom is this shiny metal, the rest of the interior unit is black plastic.

QUESTION: DOES THIS HAVE A FUSE TO LIMIT IT TO 1750 WATTS (OR, DOES IT HAVE A FUSE PERIOD?) DOES IT HAVE A BIG PLUG LIKE A HAIR DRYER?
The plug is a regular sized polarized 2 prong 110v plug. No fuse as far as I know. If there is it is not meant to be consumer replaceable as it is sealed within the plastic housing somewhere.
I did not see a fuse area just regular plug and go
As far as I know it is not fused. The plug is the small type, no GFI built in there.
oops! i don't know the technical answer to your first question. Sorry! As for the second question - it is like a toaster plug - it is not as big as a hair dryer plug. Hope this helps.
No any external fuses or circuit breakers. Regular two prong plug. Only thermostat which does't work by the way. Max power in any position.
Your home has the fuse.
I do not know about the fuse limit.. It has a normal plug, not big or small. I know it works very well and I like it. Sorry I could not help you.
#Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: CAN YOU USE IT TO WARM MILK?
It would be very hard to clean and going back to heating water probably wouldn't be good. Also there's the danger of the boiling milk foaming all over and making a mess.
I've never tried that but I bet you could. It has an adjustable temperature range so you could try it on lowest setting and experiment up from there. You definitely would want to rinse it out thoroughly after heating milk though.
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: WOULD THIS BE GOOD FOR TRAVELING?
It would definitely be easy enough to pack. It has a base that plugs into the wall. The kettle is placed on the base when in use. Gently lift the kettle from its base when the water is finished boiling for pouring. I am sure I will take mine on trips!
It says mini but it holds about 2 liters. (Only heat up to 1 liter or it boils over). I wouldn't recommend it for travel if you have limited space.
I think it would be good to travel with as long as you have space to put base and plug in.If .a motel/hotel the auto shut off is a good safety feature. It is very light to move around and carry for travel.Enjoy your cuppa!
I think it is too big for traveling, unless you have a lot of space. For example, it would take up way, way too much room in a suitcase, if you are going via plane. On the other hand, if you are going somewhere by car, it would be fine to take it along, as it wouldn't need to fit into your luggage.
#T-fal_BF6138_Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: WHICH IS BETTER WATER TO USE SINCE I HAVE BOTH APLENTY? REVERSE OSMOSIS OR DISTILLED WATER? OTHERWISE, I THINK MY WELL WATER IS TOO HARD.
Reverse osmosis is what I use. Very little mineral deposits on bottom of kettle.
We have excellent water where I live so I use tap water. I use it daily and am very happy with it
We use our well water but do have to boil vinegar through every now and again due to the lime/hard water.
#T-fal_BF6138

QUESTION: COULD YOU USE THIS TO WARM WATER FOR BABY FORMULA? THE BABY ONES COST $$$ AND THIS SEEMS LIKE THE SAME THING.
Yes I had 3 boys and it would of worked great for their formula.
Yes, absolutely, but I have a feeling that even on the lowest temp setting water will still come out too hot. You'd have to make sure to check the temp before you give baby the bottle.
You can adjust it easily. I usually keep it at half the temperature, and it's hot enough for tea. All the way full is boiling water. But, I think it would be a great use for that. I use it to make ramen noodles in under a minute. I use it for any cooking that requires hot water. Also, you can set it and walk away and it will turn itself off, might be perfect for heating water up without worrying about it boiling over and causing a fire. Once you do turn it off, the inside is metal and retains heat well.
Of course. The controls provide a wide range of temperatures.
#Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: THE DESCRIPTION SAYS "SIZE: 2 KETTLES" DOES THAT MEAN THERE ARE 2 KETTLES IN THIS PACKAGE, OR JUST ONE?
just one kettle, this is a teapot size kettle should be good enough to heat 6 to 8 cups
There was only one kettle in the package.
One ;-)
That is kinda miss leading, they should really fix that. I've ordered items that said it came with two just like this one and it really did....
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: CAN YOU SEE THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE YOU ADJUST IT TO?
No you can't. There's only a knob on the side for you to adjust the temperature, from low to medium to high.
There are 3 temp settings. It doesn't tell you the actual temp, but if you try the 3, you will find the one you want. What it is doing is just staying on longer or shorter amounts of time. I love this thing. So easy to use.
Yes
No, just low, medium and high. I leave it on high all the time.
No. You cannot see the actual temperature. There are 3 settings, that is the yellow dial you see on the front bottom of the kettle. To the far left is hot water setting that is supposed to be comfortable enough to sip. To the far right is boiling water. I use the setting to the far right for my tea. I really am happy with this kettle.
No, the scale on the dial ranges from 1 steamy mark above a coffee cup vs 3 steamy marks above a coffee cup.

QUESTION: I'M PLANNING TO TAKE THIS KETTLE TO INDIA. WOULD IT WORK FINE WITH THE AC 240V 50HZ INPUT.
No. It will not work and will burn out. It is to much voltage .. You must either get a step down transfer from 220 to 110 or buy an appliance made for 220 volts 50 Hz...
Sorry, don't know. I am just using at home & love it! If no one responds with answer perhaps you can go on T-fal web site and research.
#T-fal_BF6138

QUESTION: IS IT SMALL ENOUGH TO TRAVEL WITH?
No, it's too large and heavy.
Depends- I always take it when traveling by car, never by plane, as I don't check luggage. It boils a little over a quart, and is about twice that volume in total size.
It is quite small...and it would fit in a rollarboard suit case, but it's not not like a 16 ounce cup small, so not a good fit for a backpack. I guess it would depend on how much you want to pack in your suitcase besides.
I would say yes, it is small enough to easily be thrown in the car or even a small suitcase.
Sure but it is not tiny. How big is your suitcase? If flying it might be too big but if going by car it is OK. It holds over a liter of water.
I own a new Ram 1500 and it has a two prong accessory plug. It could be used in my truck but we have never had the need to take it with us as you can get hot water at any convenience gas station.
#Balanced_Living_4-Cup

QUESTION: AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF
Yes it shuts off once it reachs to a boiling point.
Yes, it does have auto shut-off. There is no bell or indicating sound, but it does turn off when water boils.
Yes
Yes, It does... It is amazing!! Buy it!!! :)
Mine shuts off once the desired temperature is reached. This is one of the best kitchen purchases I've ever made. I drink a lot of iced and hot tea.
#T-fal_BF6138_Review

QUESTION: IS IT QUIET?
It makes a bit of a noise but not much
It's quiet and quick. There isn't a whistle or any other obvious noise to let you know when it's ready. You can only hear it steaming for about a minute. After that, you'll no longer hear the steam, letting you know it's ready. The power automatically shuts off. I really like it:-)
Quiet and quick!
It's a fantastic pot....boils water in less than a minute, quiet and safe. I'd give it a 10 out of 10.
It is actually quite loud when it gets close to finishing. It heats so fast though, it's not too much of a bother.
All of them are making sound when they boil the water. There are no such things as absolutely quiet electric kettles. However, I can confirm that this kettle is one of the quietest I have had. Also, it is a pretty good kettle. No leaks and pretty fast boiling.
Yes, it is quiet and I enjoy using it very much.

It opens the lid
The green button on top of the lip is the lid release. It is positioned so that you pull it back to release the lid and avoid getting scalding steam on you hand.
It's the way to open the lid. I pull it towards the back and it opens.
it releases the top for filling the cavity
Big green area is pushed to open the lid.
