QUESTION: WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE RANGE? I WANT TO BUY IT FOR SENIOR PEOPLE.
With boiling water, unless pressurized, limited to apx 220 where it just turns to steam, I guess you're referring to how hot the outside of the pot gets & I can confirm that the plastic surface, while very warm, will not burn the hand. On 'the other hand', they must have their wits about them as well as the hand strength to maneuver a pot of boiling water that can easily be overfilled; the pot's fairly light weight but, with above one liter water, the position of the handle can put strain on the hands/wrists of the elderly while they try to safely pour out boiling water. And some 'old folk' might think they're able to fill the pot to near the top which is a real 'no-no' both as to their safety and the proper operation of the pot ['full 39; the thermostat won't work properly].
Not much. I measured it with a digital thermometer. Lowest setting was 175F, 1/4 way was 182, and the the middle setting actually boiled the water. So from middle on up is useless. It's hard to find a budget kettle with good temperature control. If anybody has better results, I'd like to know and I'll send mine back for a replacement.
I'm not sure of the exact temperature rang. The hottest setting boils the water. I drink a lot of green tea so I keep mine set at the lowest. I love mine and I purchased one for my mother who loves her too.
Don't buy it for anybody. It will last less than 2 years. I bought it in 2012 and it died a couple of months ago. I always boiled the water to the hottest setting. I can recommend the Proctor Silex but I just bought it that costs less and boils faster - (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003HKTZCO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I'll let you know if it makes it to 2016!
I really don't know. I purchased for a niece and she is really happy with it. Sorry I can't help.
You can change the range of temperature by adjusting the thermostat but just in my OWN mind I think it may be more trouble than older folks want to deal with or think about. If you show them before using though - perhaps it will just stay where you set it. I know my own mother was confused.
I use the hottest setting as I make tea with boiling water. If the senior has issues with weakness or tremors, I would worry more about that, as even the lowest setting could cause a scald. It's heavy, but I rarely fill it full. BTW, I am a senior.
The temperature control in the front is not marked with degrees but the unit does heat from warm to boiling. There is not a way to fix the dial in one position. Filled to the max 1.7 liters it is quite heavy so keep that in mind. The last Vitesse kettle I had lasted over 10 years and is still working.

QUESTION: IS IT MADE IN USA? (OR CHINA?)
Unfortunately, it is made in China. I didn't know when I ordered it on Amazon. I like the product, however, but wish it were made in the USA.
It is made in China. My wife loves it, it heats up so quickly.
It is made in China.
Yes, but I enjoy using it very muh
At its best, China is capable of producing some high-quality goods. From repeated experience, this is not one of them. Expect maybe three years out of it, unless you use it sparingly. It is redeemed somewhat by its superior design relative to other kettles I've seen.
The first one I owened was French this new one is made in China. We'll see how long it lasts!

QUESTION: HOW TO GET RID OFF THE TERRIBLE PLASTIC TASTED?
I would recommend boiling water (full kettle) with a few drops of lemon juice once/twice... It goes away. We are using our kettle for a number of months - and it's perfectly fine.
The instructions say to toss the 1 or 2 pots of water you boil, which I did only one. I didn't experience a plastic taste with mine, but w/ other products that have had a plastic taste, I've used white vinegar, like cleaning a coffee brewer. Use 1 cup of vinegar alone, heat it up & toss; then pour in another cup of vinegar & add water to fill, heat & toss that, rinse out w/ clear water & toss; then heat water as usual. That should get rid of the taste. Some folk swear by baking soda (like Arm & Hammer, not baking powder). Another old tip that sometimes works w/ plastic off-gassing or imbedded odors (like onions or sauces): stuff the plastic item/ container w/ news print, close tightly & put in the refrigerator overnight, then clean. Good luck!
We have never had any problems with a plastic taste from our kettle. However, one suggestion would be to clean it out with a strong vinegar solution and then give it a good rinse with dish soap. This is not an official "factory" suggestion, just something I have done in the past and works very well with coffee machines.
I have not noticed any plastic tase. I use this electric pot every day, sometimes twice. Never tasted anything but what the hot water heated in my mug!
I've never noticed it.
We have never had a plastic taste from our kettle.
Sorry, I did not have your unfortunate experience. I think it is a great product!
Never had the plastic taste problem so far....

QUESTION: WHERE IS IT MADE.
It is made in China.
T-Fal is a French brand, but like everything nowadays, it's made in China. By the way, I looked for an American-made electric water kettle/ teapot & could not find one w/ all the features this one has. We've been very happy with ours. My husband has been battling cancer & with surgeries, makes tea often & throughout the day. This small appliance has been wonderful. By the way, I've even used the variable temp setting to add hot water to our carpet steam cleaner (hotter than our faucet output).
It says on the Label : Made in China. Like everything else we buy.

QUESTION: I CAN'T FIND THAT IT WHISTLES WHEN BOILING, JUST AN AUTO SHUT OFF. DOES IT WHISTLE? IF SO, HOW LOUD IS THE WHISTLE? IS THE BOILING VERY LOUD AS WELL?
It doesn't whistle. The unit makes a noise (something like a grumble) while heating & you can hear it click off when it's reached a boil. I'll admit I originally wanted a whistle, but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a must-have feature. Our stove-top kettle whistles, but the Vitesses uses so much less energy because it's so fast, rather than turning a gas range on numerous times in the day; you really don't have to wait long enough to need a whistle. By the time I turn it on, get out the tea cup & bag, the water's ready!
There is no whistle. The noise is comparable to any other electric kettle that we have owned, distinct but when boiling less than just before coming to the boil.
No whistle. Boiling quite quiet. That's why I like it so much!
I'm sorry, I can't help you here. I don't remember anything about the whistle nor the sound level of the boiling. My concern was with the manner of showing the temperature of the water; it didn't fit my needs.
It does not whistle, it turns off automatically and you can hear the click when it's done. It's not too loud but you can definitely hear it. Boiling is not too loud either. This tea pot is perfect! We use it everyday. Would highly recommend.
It does not whistle.
The kettle does not whistle. The boiling is very vigorous on the high setting, but if I am two rooms away, I cannot hear it shut off.

QUESTION: CAN YOU SET THE TEMPERATURE SO IT IS BETWEEN 160 AND 17 DEGREES?
I think that would be difficult on any device (typo). lol. There are three temperatures settings, I do not know what the actual temps are exactly but I don't think it is that low. The middle temps brings a cup of water to a boil in about one minute and then shuts off. I would imagine the lowest setting temp reaches the 190 - 210 range.
No. The kettle has a temp control, but it does not allow a setting below boiling. Can't say I fully understand the logic of the temp control on this kettle. Yet I do recommend this product.

QUESTION: HOW MUCH DOES THE KETTLE ITSELF WEIGH? I FIND MOST 1.7 LITERS TO BE TOO HEAVY.
It weighs 2lbs with nothing in it.
Empty, the kettle weighs 2 pounds. I usually fill it to between 0.7 and 1 liter. I use both hands when it's got water in it. I rarely need a full kettle of water, but it's good that it's available.
I never fill it much, so it's not very heavy for me. It's plastic, so that keeps weight down, I guess.
I think it weighs about 2 lbs or slightly less. I believe it to be average or below average in weight, especially when compared to other heavy plastic or metal kettles. I don't often fill it to the 'fill' line but if I do I can use both hands if necessary. It has a really great large handle that is very easy to grip, large enough for two hands if necessary.
it is about the same as other kettels. but the quality is much better, the outside does not get as hot as other kettles and it warms water much faster and quietly. I have mine for almost 3 years now. I bought a second smaller one for my wife to use in office.
the kettle is very light,my best advice would be to not put more water in it than you need if weight is an issue, this will also shorten the boil time.
I agree with others. Empty is fine. Only boil as much water as you need and you will have no problem.

QUESTION: IS THIS BPA FREE
I don't know that for sure. All I know is that it doesn't have the annoying "plastic" smell that I've noticed in other pots. I've had this one for quite awhile now and no problems. I am very happy with how quickly it heats water.
From what I have read this unit is bpa free. http://www.electriccordlesswaterkettle.com/t-fal-bf6520004-vitesses/ Do not take my word for it. Check with T-fal.
Sorry, but I can't help you. I have no idea and didn't keep the product.
I don't think its bpa free, there is no label on the product.

QUESTION: LEAKING AROUND VIEWING WINDOW?
Not mine . . . I have it at work and it is used by 6 or 7 people throughout the day. I has been here for a few months and we all love it so much that a couple of us (myself included) have purchased one for home.
Well I think the key part of your comment is "had ours for years." Sometimes things just break down from being handled normally. I don't think replacing with another would be a bad idea. 8-)
Not mine - I love my tea kettle
I have not experienced this after several months of heavy use.
I have had no problem with leaking. I have used the kettle several times a day for the last 3 or 4 months without any problems at all. Very pleased with the product and would recommend it.
No leaks, using for 2 years so far
This is our second T-fal and we have never had any problems. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Depends on how much is "leaking". At first I thought mine had a tiny drip leak. But it actually looks like condensation drainage. These do get steamy inside, between the double walls and around the controls. That's to be expected. There are holes on the bottom for draining out condensation - and that's a good thing. If it gets any worse, I'll post. But for now I think a few drops are normal operation.

QUESTION: DOES THE ADJUSTMENT KNOB ON THE T-FAL BF652 VITESSES KETTLE ALLOW INFINITELY VARIABLE TEMPERATURE SETTINGS, OR ARE THEY STEPPED PRESETS?
Infinitely variable.
Just Steppet presets.
The adjustment knob from left to right gauges the temperature of the water....from hot to boiling.
It is NOT stepped presets you can stop wherevervyou want. I love mine and use it constantly.
Presets & nothing else. Works fine though!

QUESTION: IS THERE AN INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWING POWER IS ON? (AND MAYBE EVEN TURNS OFF WHEN WATER IS BOILED OR TO SET TEMPERATURE.)
Yes, there is; and also I noticed that when it turns off (water boiled) you hear a little "click"... So you definitely know when the kettle turns off.
Yes, there is a light when you turn the switch on, and it auto turns off if the lid is closed.
Switch on handle turns on power. Pops to off when temp is reached, boiling in our case. Light on base shows when power is on/off. Lever above light sets desired temp. We always leave this control at the highest setting to reach a boil for tea & coffee.
yes and yes
No, there is no light, however the rocker switch on the top of the handle, (which you push to start heating the water) pops up when the water in the tea pot reaches the proper temerature that you have selected on the round dial at the bottom of the pot. When I start the heating process I soon hear a rumbling as the water heats up. You can see it bubble up through the vertical gage which is clear. It functions to indicate how much wter is in the pot.
The temperature dial glows orange when it's heating up & when the unit clicks off, the light goes out.

QUESTION: IS THE HEATING ELEMENT AN EXPOSED METAL BAR INSIDE?
yes, but smell is very bad inside ((((( Therefore I don't use it. (((
Yes, the item heat the mettal bar.
No, the bottom of the inside of the pot is metal, but there's no exposed element.
No, it is not

QUESTION: I'M ON THE VERGE OF ORDERING THIS. HOW WELL DOES THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL WORK? DOES IT MATCH WITH WHITE, GREEN, AND BLACK TEAS TEMPERATURES?
The function for choosing different temperatures on this device does work, but I wouldn't rely on it if you are looking for precision. If you're very picky about matching the perfect water temperature for a specific tea, I recommend that you get a thermometer.
Its not marked but the highest setting is 212 - perfect for black and herbal, the lowest is 175 - perfect for white and green (I measured the water temps to learn this). I think this pot is great for the price.
It has a temperature dial but it doesn't show the exact temperature of the water. I love this pot and highly recommend it but you probably need a much more expensive tea pot if you want exact temperatures for your tea.
The dial has 3 settings, but no temperature markings. I use the lowest for green tea, the highest for black tea and drip coffee. mhs
I would not recommend to buy this product. Temperature control knob fell off in 6 month.
To be honest, we only use one setting for black tea.
It is the same as a rolling boil. Perfect for black tea.

QUESTION: IS THIS PRODUCT USA OR CHINA, PLEASE?
It is made in China. I use this kettle every day and it has been the best kettle I have ever had
Yes it is made in China . Darn it! I should have known true everything seem to make in China so where are the American stuff?
#T-fal_BF6520

QUESTION: DOES YOUR T-FAL KETTLE LEAKS?
No it's great! I love it!
No, my kettle didn't leak. I just wanted a tea kettle with more precise settings than this one had. It heated fast and I would have been satisfied if the settings had been, first of all, more accurate, and also if there had been more precise settings. But no leaking problem at all.
We see a bit of water on the base unit but never enough to run over on to the counter top. It may be just condensation or even splash over from our filling the kettle. I would not say it leaks in any way that might cause me to worry.
No, has never leaked and we have been using it every single day for several years.
No, it doesn't leak. It hasn't caused any trouble whatsoever. I like it a lot.
This is my third one and none of them have leaked...I have used it everyday multiple times per day and it just wore out but never leaked.
We've owned this model for 5 years and it's been great. Ours just developed a leak near the water level window so we're going to retire it and buy another one just like it.

QUESTION: THE ON AND OFF BUTTON ON MY TWO MONTH OLD POT DOES NOT WORK FOR THE MEDIUM AND HIGH SETTINGS. DO I CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER OR AMAZON?
I would call the company--the literature says it has a one year guarantee--1 800 769 3682
try Amazon first

QUESTION: IS IT BPA FREE
I have no idea. Sorry.
I don't know! But I feel no difference in the taste of water after it boils in this boiler. So hopefully not!
We were looking to purchase this for a workplace so BPA free is a requirement. We emailed the company and received this in response: Thank you for your email via T-falUSA.com. QUESTION: WHAT IS THE WEIGHT OF THIS EMPTY?
Dunno exactly, but it's plastic, so it's not heavy. Inside is metal. It's a good kettle.
Almost 2lbs
Not sure what the actual weight is, but it does not feel heavy at all. Recommend this product.

QUESTION: IS THIS BPA-FREE?
I've contacted T-fal in France (called "Téfal" here) , they assured me that this model never had BPA, either in France or the U.S..
Thanks for asking. I must admit I had not researched it yet. I found this link http://www.electriccordlesswaterkettle.com/t-fal-bf6520004-vitesses/ that seems positive about stating it's absolutely BPA free. It may not have always been the case, so mine (6 years old) may not be immune ! But the ones on sale nowadays seem to be safe.
To the best of my knowledge it is BPA free per the company (note: CHINA NOW MAKES MOST OF THESE MODELS NOW) both for the French and USA product versions, but if you want to be sure go to the company web site. It does have a small after taste the first few times you use this device but if you follow the printed instructions you will note to clean with vinager or baking soda first to remove it. Great little product for its intended use.

QUESTION: IS THE COIL THAT MAKES IT BOIL SHOWING WHEN IT'S OPEN OR IT'S HIDDEN?
It's like a regular plastic pitcher inside except with a metal bottom. No coils are exposed!
Coil does not show. It is concealed in base of the kettle.

QUESTION: HAVE ANY OF YOU USED THIS TO BOIL MILK WITHOUT SCORCHING IT? I NEED SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR MAKING YOGURT.
Have not done exactly that, but the temp control option is pretty good. My guess is you might find the setting that works and just leave it there.
I have not & don't plan to. I DID notice the sealed element & appreciate it would make it easier to clean. Personally, I would get an electric yogurt maker, so much easier -- rather than trusting the temp to be what you'd need for yogurt. It's been 20+ yrs since I went to the trouble to make my own. If you decide to try, take temperature readings to determine whether it will work for you. Good luck!
No, we haven't tried boiling milk. You might have to contact the manufacturer for that info.
No. I just do water for tea or hot chocolate.
I have not tried to heat milk.

QUESTION: ARE THESE MADE IN FRANCE OR CHINA? I SEEM TO RECALL SOME FRIENDS OF MINE HAVING ONE THAT WAS MADE IN FRANCE. THEY BOUGHT IT HERE ON AMAZON 2004-5.
Made in China
Mine was made in China - purchased in 4th quarter of 2014.

QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE FILTER
I have not replaced the filter or anything else on my T-fal tea kettle! It works fine and I am very happy with it. Have had it for several years.
I've had mine for a year and never replaced a filter. It boils fast and has never tasted funny like some of the other electric kettles. I still love this kettle.
No I haven't seen a filter. So if I need to replace one I didn't know it. Sorry.
No. You do not have to replace the filter. Once in a while, the filter pops off, and I have not tasted any difference. Actually, I am not quite sure why there is a filter in the spout at all, as it really does not serve any purpose. The filter is not really fine enough to be filtering particles from the water.
I haven't seen any filter replacements. Are they sold?
#Vitesses_1.7-Liter_Electric

QUESTION: WHERE IS THE T-FAL ELECTRIC KETTLE MADE?
made in China. I find this kettle beautifully made/designed, feels very good and balanced, call it ergonomically designed. Best we've ever had.
Made in CHINA

QUESTION: IF WANTING MORE THAN ONE CUP OF TEA, CAN YOU BREW IN THIS POT, OR IS IT JUST FOR BOILING WATER?
Not tried, but I think it is good for boiling only.
This pot is for boiling, or heating, water. It is not a teapot.
My opinion would be that the "pot" is a dedicated item intended only for boiling water.
I would say it's just for boiling water. I don't know what the residue from coffee or tea IN it would do to it's ability to boil over time. I myself wouldn't use it that way.
boiling water only
I believe this is purely a tea kettle for boiling water. I would think that if you tried to brew tea in it, it would probably stain the inside which would possibly affect how quickly the water heated on future occasions especially if you did this a lot!
#T-fal_BF6520_Vitesses_1.7-Liter_Electric

QUESTION: WHAT MATERIAL IS IT MADE FROM?
Thick, sturdy plastic
It's plastic, sturdy, well made; doesn't have the annoying odor that the black plastic kettles from T-fal have.
#T-fal_BF6520

QUESTION: DOES IT TAKE A LOT OF ENERGY COMPARING TO THE ELECTRIC STOVE?
We have always found that it heats up the water twice as fast, thus saving energy by heating up the stove. Both are electric, but the kettle is more efficient.
I don't believe so. It heats the water up so quickly, I am always saying I can't believe how fast this works.
I do not know exact units of energy used, but empirically, it would seem to me that a hot water kettle is MUCH more efficient than an electric stove with a plain kettle on top.
No. Quicker and energy efficient.
It heats up very fast so it does save energy. In addition, I'd like the option to select temperature for boiling or drinking level . Most other brands do not have this option.

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?

Have no idea. Didn't keep it long enough. When I returned it quickly, I got my money back.
